Former Gentoo and Wythenshawe Community Housing boss wants to ’step on to the next life pathway’
Trident Group chief executive Nigel Wilson has announced his retirement following 41 years in the housing sector.

Wilson has spent three years at Trident and has previously held the chief executive role at Gentoo Group, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group and Parkway Green Housing Trust.
Trident credits Wilson with overseeing the landlord’s governance rating being upgraded from a G2 to G1 last year. The 3,400-home provider had been downgraded to G2 in January 2024 following serious failings against the RSH’s rent standard.
Wilson began his career as a housing officer working in Small Heath, Birmingham in co-operatives.
He said: “Like everyone, the time comes when you consider the time to pass on the baton to the next lucky person. At 63 years old, a new grandson in Holland and 10 years post a quadruple by-pass, the family feel it is now time to step on to the next life pathway and ease down…
“To be honest, whilst I will not miss the travel I will miss the people, buzz of work and the craic! Housing has been a roller coaster over the years, but I have always seen the opportunity to make a difference, work with tenants to improve services and provide the new homes needed.
“It feels tougher these days, money is short, costs high and expectations higher, but we all know housing is the core of a safe life. We must always remember why we are here and let the social purpose of what we do be at our heart!”
Wilson will remain in the role until August 2026 when group finance director David Harris will step up as interim chief executive of 3,500-home Trident.
