Private housebuilding output drop 1.6% in May

Official figures for May show drop in new-build construction driven by private housing decline

Private housebuilding output fell back by 1.6% in May, taking it to almost 15% under the level seen the same month a year earlier, according to the latest official figures.

The Office for National Statistics said there was a £51m fall in private housebuilding work in the month, equivalent to 1.6%, taking seasonally adjusted output to £3.05bn. Public housing output grew by £22m to £467m.
