Outline planning for Langwith Village near York due for submission in December

A consultation on plans for Langwith Village, which would deliver 3,339 homes at the former Elvington Airfield near York, is due to open on Monday 19 October.

Located near the Yorkshire Air Museum, the settlement would also include schools, shops, community facilities and walking and cycling connections.

The Langwith Development Partnership, including the City of York Council and Homes England, has been working to bring the project forward since 2016 when the site was first identified as a strategic housing opportunity for the council’s local plan.

Langwith Village’s allocation was confirmed when the local authority formally adopted the local plan in 2025.

Now, local residents, businesses and stakeholders will be invited to review the proposals included in the emerging masterplan before an outline planning application is submitted in December 2026.

A design code will also be established, taking into account feedback from the public consultation and findings from a series of ‘Enquiry by Design’ workshops held in September. These events brought together technical specialists, community representatives and key stakeholders to explore emerging design concepts, including approaches to landscape, green infrastructure and community facilities.

The design code aims to establish a clear framework for future development.

Consultation materials will be available on the Langwith Village Site from next Monday until 30 November.
