Group also announces proposed appointments for new for-profit subsidiary
Karbon Group has appointed a new chair designate to take leadership of its board this summer.
Alexis Cleveland will take over as group board chair at the Newcastle-based provider from 1 July, following the retirement of David Bell.
Cleveland first joined the Karbon board in October 2020 and has served as vice-chair and senior independent director since December 2021.
She will take on the chair role until she reaches the end of her tenure with the group in September 2026.
The group also agreed to the appointment of David Murtagh as group board member and chair of the group audit and risk committee from 1 April, and Rachael Turnbull and Raman Sanghera as group board members. It also appointed Oliver Boundy as a board member of its registered subsidiary 54 North Homes.
On 28 April 2025, Karbon’s group nominations committee recommended further appointments for the boards of its subsidiaries, to be ratified at meetings in May.
These included Andy Gamble as chair of 54 Homes and Celia Weldon as non-executive director of Leazes Homes, which was part of Newcastle City Council’s arms-length management organisation until a merger with Karbon last year.
The nominations committee also recommended the appointments of Dennis Watson and Christine Smith as, respectively, chair and non-executive director of Graphite Living, a proposed for-profit subsidiary announced in November 2024.
In its financial statements for the year to 31 March 2024, Karbon revealed it had achieved an operating margin of 23% and a stock increase of 2%, below its targets of 24.5% and 2.5%.
