The proposals, brought forward by Muse and Homes England, would see the £640m regeneration of the former Thames Valley University site in the town centre.

The scheme, known as North West Quadrant, would redevelop the 3.6ha site as a new mixed-use neighbourhood.

The residential component primarily comprises build-to-rent, but also includes 325 co-living units.

It also includes a 25,000 sq m office building, 3,220 sq m of retail, a nursery, a community events space, and new green spaces.

At a planning committee meeting on Wednesday (28 October), councillors approved the scheme in outline, with full permission given for its first phase.

This will include the delivery of 501 BTR homes, as well as the entire co-living element.

The project is anticipated to be started in 2027 and completed by 2037, through three phases of development.
