Watchdog says it is ‘making progress’ with investigation

The Housing Ombudsman Service has issued a fresh update on the cyber attack incident since it occurred last month, seeking to “reassure” service users it is “making progress” with the investigation.

On 13 October, the watchdog posted that a third party IT incident was impacting its case management system and that it was investigating whether any personal information had been compromised.

In the latest statement published earlier this week, the Housing Ombudsman Service said: “As we set out in earlier communications, the incident has been contained, and we are working with the external supplier of our case management system to investigate.

“Today’s update is to reassure you that we’re continuing to investigate and we are making progress. The information here on our website is as much detail as we are able to provide at this stage in our investigation.”

The update comes a week after the chair of the government’s housing select committee called for answers regarding the cyber attack.

The Housing Ombudsman Service has said tenants can email concerns about the incident to a new incident enquiries email address and advised that new tenant complaints about landlords can be raised via email or telephone.

The watchdog also recommended that users “remain vigilant” for any unexpected correspondence requesting personal information.
