John Hannigan is set to take over as chair of the professional body in October

The Chartered Institute of Housing has announced John Hannigan as its new chair designate.

The professional body confirmed  Hannigan, chief executive of Dublin-based association Circle Voluntary Housing Association (CVHA), will take over as chair of the CIH in October pending expected confirmation from a vote of members.

He will take over from Geraldine Howley, who is standing down after six years after completing two terms.

Hannigan has led CVHA for six years and also chairs the Housing Alliance grouping of Ireland’s largest housing associations. He has worked in the sector for more than three decades and sat on CIH Northern Ireland’s advisory board from 2016 to 2022.

Hannigan said he is “honoured and excited” to take on the role.

“Working closely with the board and management team at CIH, I plan to drive continued growth and excellence for our sector and particularly our members”, he said.

“Together, we will navigate the evolving landscape, collaborate with stakeholders on the issues that matter, and seize opportunities that will deliver value for our members.”
