Annual in-depth report now available as a free download

The Chartered Institute of Housing has published its latest UK Housing Review.

The influential annual report, launched at a House of Lords reception this afternoon, contains 319 pages of in-depth analysis on trends and issues supported by more than 200 charts and tables. It includes housing statistics available for the UK, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including English regional data.

This year’s report, published with the University of Glasgow, contains sections on contemporary issues including an assessment of the role of for-profit housing providers, a review of the part played by housing in sustaining a healthy population and examination of the planned new towns programme in England. It includes analysis of the impact of Right to Buy on social housing stock and the likely effect of the current government’s changes to the policy.

It also includes commentary analysing trends in the economy and in UK housing markets, housing provision and public expenditure on housing, current government investment plans, homelessness and government help with housing costs.

The 2026 UK Housing Review’s complete team of authors include Mark Stephens, John Perry, Peter Williams, and Gillian Young, with contributions from David Gebbie, Emma Baker, Amy Clair, Nick Raynsford, Matthew Scott, Lynne McMordie, and Sam Lister.
