Two-block project to include 516 student beds

UAE-based developer Arada. has submitted plans for an 11-storey student accommodation scheme in Peckham designed by Morris + Co.
The two-block scheme on Blackpool Road will include 516 student beds, 55 affordable homes and 1,200sq ft of ground floor commercial space.
The two buildings will each be arranged around a central courtyard with 376 shared cycle storage spaces, while the student block will also offer a roof terrace and amenities including a gym and communal lounges.
Arada said both buildings had been “thoughtfully designed with everyday life in mind” following engagement with the local community to ensure the development “complements Peckham’s local character”.
Steve Harrington, planning director at Arada London, said: “From the outset it has been a priority for us that Blackpool Road feels like a natural part of Peckham. We have engaged extensively with the local community to shape these plans, ahead of submission and look forward to working with Southwark Council on the next steps.
He added: “London faces a pressing need for genuinely affordable, high -quality homes and well-located student accommodation, and Blackpool Road is designed to meet both.”
The scheme is part of a 17,000-home pipeline for Arada London, which was previously known as Regal before Arada acquired a 75% stake in the firm in September last year.
