Trudi Elliott takes over when Peter Dixon retires later this year
Southern Housing has announced the appointment of its new chair.
Trudi Elliott will take over the position when Peter Dixon retires later this year.
She was previously chief executive of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and is currently chair of the Planning Inspectorate.
Until recently, she was vice-chair of another housing association, Sanctuary, where she chaired the housing board and was board member responsible for complaints.
Elliott said she was “delighted” to have been selected as the 80,000-home provider’s new chair and said she was attracted by its “commitment to ensuring residents are front and centre whilst driving efficiencies to build more affordable homes for those in housing need”.
In 2022, Southern merged with Optivo to form Southern Housing.
“We have been working hard since the merger to lay the foundations for future success,” said outgoing chair Dixon.
“I’m proud of what has been achieved so far and am delighted to welcome Trudi Elliott as my successor.

“Trudi brings an impressive track record and I’m confident she will take Southern Housing from strength to strength. I look forward to working with Trudi to facilitate a seamless handover.”
Southern has currently put a pause on new development beyond its committed programme will last until its cash interest cover has improved.
Earlier this year, Southern Housing announced it was moving away from a traditional patch-based housing management approach to a new model called ‘local link’.
