North London projects aims to more than treble the existing number of homes

One Housing has opted to work with house builder Countryside as it seeks to overhaul two large housing estates in north London.

The housing association, a member of the G15 group, said it would jointly plan, design, pay for and deliver what it called a “comprehensive regeneration” of the Gilbeys Yard and Juniper Crescent (pictured) estates in Camden with Countryside, subject to contracts, over an eight-year period.

The work, which is to be the subject of what the pair called a “positive resident ballot” in March next year, will look to deliver between 650 and 700 homes, versus the current 202.

One Housing said the resident steering group had been part of the procurement team to select the joint venture partner “and would continue to be involved in aspects of the project”.

Mike Johnson, One Housing’s group development director, said: “Following a rigorous procurement process, we are looking forward to working with Countryside, our residents and Camden council to deliver this project.

“Countryside shares our commitment to providing high quality new homes. We were also impressed by their approach to resident engagement and their ability to demonstrate that they could deliver on added social value and community benefits.”

Andy Fancy, Countryside’s managing director, partnerships south, said his firm was “thrilled” to be partnering One Housing on the scheme.

“We are looking to deliver more than three times as many high-quality homes including affordable homes, as well as ensuring that local residents benefit from attractive public open spaces and crucial local amenities, all vital in creating sustainable communities.”
