84,000-home landlord latest to sign up to standard which includes 48 ESG measures
The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) has adopted the Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing (SRS).
The 84,000-home landlord and strategic housing authority is the latest to sign up to the standard, which is designed to be a framework to allow social landlords to report on environmental, social, and governance performance in a transparent and consistent way.
The SRS, which has been adopted by more than 130 providers, was launched in 2020 in response to concerns that ESG investment in social housing was being held back by the absence of a sustainable reporting standard. The SRS is a voluntary framework overseen by Sustainability for Housing. It covers 48 ESG considerations including affordability, safety standards and zero carbon targets.
NIHE is aiming to improve energy efficiency, cutting CO2 emissions by 25,000 tonnes by 2025/26 and retrofitting homes to an average standard assessment procedure Band C rating by 2030.

Piers Williamson, chair of Sustainability for Housing, said: “By aligning with this framework, the Housing Executive is taking a leadership role in Northern Ireland in embedding ESG at the core of its operations, benefiting residents, investors, and the wider community.” SFH is a private limited company overseen by a voluntary board.
Grainia Long, chief executive of NIHE, said: “Participating in the Standard gives us the great opportunity to track our progress in key areas including affordability, carbon emissions and energy efficiency.”
