Michael Old will advice on corporate finance, funding and deal structuring

Old has more than 30 years of real estate experience and will advise on corporate finance, funding and deal structuring across the rental developer’s portfolio.

He will also work with Moda’s investment director Guy Hurwood to grow the company’s film of global institutional investors and agency partners.

It comes as the rental developer has secured funding from investment management firms Harrison Street and Apache Capital as well as insurance company NFU Mutual to fund a 722-home build-to-rent (BTR) scheme in Birmingham.

Guy Hurwood, investment director at Moda Living, which last year reported soaring profits, said: “Michael is a fantastic addition to the Moda team. With his background in corporate finance, global investor network and strong track record across multiple real estate sectors, including working on some of the living sector’s most significant transactions, we have no doubt Michael will be a terrific asset to our investment team as we continue to forge sector-leading deals across the UK.”

Old comes from being a partner in EY’s UK real estate corporate finance team, where he has been for just over three years. Before that he was a managing director in real estate finance in investments banks including Jefferies, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Rothschild & Co.

Old stated: “I am hugely excited to be joining the Moda Living team as they complete and consolidate existing development projects, progress their strong development pipeline and expand into more ‘for rent; living markets. It’s a privilege to join a team that’s built a reputation for excellence, innovation and, crucially, delivery over recent years, and I look forward to drawing on my global finance experience to expand our investor relationships and forging new long-term partnerships for one of the most exciting growing businesses in real estate.”

Moda Living constructs build-to-rent, single family homes and student accommodation and has a pipeline of more than 24,000 homes across the UK with a combined gross development value of more than £6.8bn.
