Medway council is seeking a development partner to deliver hundreds of new homes on the site of a former civic centre on the banks of the River Medway in Kent.

The local authority is looking to potentially build more than 550 homes – a mix of flats and houses – on the 3ha site (pictured), as part of a masterplan for the Strood Waterfront area.

The council said a quarter of the homes will be designated affordable in line with its housing policy.

An OJEU notice published last week said the duration of the contract would be 10 years. The value of the scheme is being estimated at £150m.

Medway council is also delivering a large regeneration scheme in nearby Rochester.

That programme will eventually deliver 1,400 new homes, as well as a new primary school and retail space, once the scheme is completed in 2030.
