Developer Story Homes considering its next steps
Plans for a 1,300-home garden village in Lancashire’s green belt have been rejected.

Applicant Story Homes had been seeking approval for a proposed new community called Cuerdale Garden Village, which would have been built on five parcels of farmland totalling 159ha in size.
In addition to new homes, the development would have included 164,000 sq m of employment floorspace and ancillary uses, a park and ride facility, and outdoor recreational facilities.
It also would have delivered new publicly accessible open space, a local centre and two from entry primary school.
However, at a committee meeting last week, South Ribble Borough councillors accepted planning officers’ recommendation to reject the scheme, which had received 1,250 objections.
Council documents said that the borough had “worked pro-actively” with Story Homes to address technical objections to the proposals, but that there remained “a clear and fundamental objection to the proposed development.”
Its rejection said that the scheme was “contrary to the adopted and emerging spatial strategy for Central Lancashire” as it was in an “unsustainable location” and would cause harm to the green belt.
According to a BBC report, Story Homes had warned councillors against making a decision without considering the most up-to-date version of its plans. The developer is reportedly considering its next steps.
