Fall in housing work helps push construction to its first overall decline in output in 18 months

Rising inflation, fragile consumer confidence and higher interest rates have led to construction output falling for the first time since January 2021.

In today’s S&P Global/CIPS UK Construction PMI update, lower volumes of residential work and civil engineering activity drove the first contraction in overall activity for 18 months.
