London borough sets up new board as part of new governance structure
Croydon Council has appointed Eamon McGoldrick to head up its new housing assurance board.

The London borough, which manages around 16,000 homes, earlier this year announced it was setting up a new board as part of its governance structure to oversee all areas of housing, including the council’s work as a landlord and its responsibilities for homelessness and housing needs.
McGoldrick will chair the board which consists of councillors, residents and people with expert knowledge of housing.
He is a well-known figure in the scoail housing sector having held senior roles including chief executive at Homes for Islington, chair of the Barnet Group and managing director of the National Federation of Arms-Length Management Organisations (ALMO).
McGoldrick said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Chair of Croydon’s Housing Assurance Board. I firmly believe that Councils benefit from the insight that residents and independents bring to their governance arrangements
The new board replaces Croydon’s independent housing improvement board which was set up as part of its ultimately successful bid to regain regulatory compliance.
The Regulator of Social in 2021 issued a regulatory notice after the council was found to be in breach of the RSH’s Home Standard and its Tenant Involvement and Empowerment Standard. It returned to regulatory compliance in May.
