Plans by Clarion Housing to build more than 100 affordable homes on the south coast have been given the green light.

The housing association’s proposals to build 125 affordable homes in Portslade in Brighton were fully approved by the local council.

The scheme, which is expected to be completed in early 2022, will feature 97 homes for share ownership and 28 for affordable rent.

The development will be built by Billingshurst, West Sussex-based contractor Thakenham Client.

Earlier this year Brighton and Hove council threw out proposals for 200 affordable homes to be built Homes for Brighton and Hove, a joint venture between the council and Hyde Group.

That scheme was rejected at the time due to concerns around its financial viability.
