£100m regeneration scheme to transform The Springs with over 300 homes and new public space
Developer Capital & Centric have submitted an application to High Peak Borough Council to replace The Springs shopping centre in Buxton with a 332-home neighbourhood.

The £100m scheme, designed by Stephenson Hamilton Risley Studio, will deliver townhouses and apartments for rent with a resident gym, a mini cinema and co-working space.
It will make space for independent bars, shops and cafes as well as a more accessible route from the railway station into town.
There are also plans for green public spaces around the River Wye intended for dining use, events and leisure.
The Manchester-based developer said its year-long consultation with local people has resulted in a design “full of nods to Buxton’s past”, such as colonnades, bay windows and the use of materials like limestone and sandstone alongside practical amenities including two new public toilet blocks and a lift for the station entrance.
John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital & Centric, said the firm “made the plans even greener [and] expanded the housing offer” following consultation feedback.
Damien Greenhalgh, deputy leader and executive councillor for regeneration, tourism and leisure, at High Peak Borough Council, said: “What began with £6.6 million from the government’s Future High Street Fund, alongside £4.2 million of our own funds, the council purchasing The Springs shopping centre and appointing Capital & Centric as our development partner, has now progressed into a £100 million+ scheme we believe will bring lasting benefits for the town.”
