Plans for 10.4-acre site were amended after consultations with local residents

Essex-based housebuilder Weston Homes and supermarket giant Tesco have submitted amended plans to Redbridge council for a 1,280-home development in Goodmayes, east London.

Following a consultation with more than 750 local residents and stakeholders the pair amended their initial plans for the mixed-use scheme near Goodmayes railway station, reducing the number of homes from 1,400 and cutting down the height of various buildings.

The number of parking bays for new residents was also reduced from 30% of homes to 25%, after talks with locals, while 2,500 cycle bays will also be delivered.

Of the 1,280 homes some 414 – 35% based on habitable rooms – will be affordable, including social rent and shared ownership.

There will also be a number of discounted market sale units, with just over a quarter of these being three-bedroom family homes.

The development will also feature a new Tesco store, a three-form primary school, a new community hall, commercial space, cafes and nearly eight acres of landscaped ground.

Weston Homes recently signed a deal to turn a car park in Harlow into a 361-home, 11-storey housing scheme.

The masterplan for the schyeme was drawn up by Russ Drage Architects.
