Firm to start work on scheme for 1,400 homes next February

Wates Residential has been named as Harrow council’s development partner for its £600m regeneration programme.

The council’s cabinet approved the decision to appoints Wates as the development partner late last week for a 50:50-owned development vehicle, the Harrow Strategic Development Partnership (HSDP).

The project is designed to transform Wealdstone by building 1,500 new homes, including affordable homes, a new civic centre, shops, offices, and a school, as well as public and green spaces, on three sites across the borough.

The announcement comes 15 months after the north-west London local authority launched its search for a development partner. This was overseen by advisor Avison Young while international law firm, Pinsent Masons advised the council on the set up of the proposed partnership.

The project will also provide construction training for more than 130 unemployed adults and deliver 220 apprenticeships.

The HSDP is due to start in February 2021 with the first homes built in 2022.
