Southern Housing is planning to build nearly 500 homes across six developments in London and the South-east as part of its three-year corporate plan.

Work on the 488 homes has either started or is due to get underway in the next few months.

Nearly three-quarters (72%) of the eventual properties will be affordable.

The developments will contribute 7% towards the group’s target of building 7,500 homes by 2027.

Southern owns and manages more than 28,000 homes across the south of England. The group’s six new schemes are:

Herald Street, Tower Hamlets, east London

A former warehouse in Bethnal Green, this will deliver 62  apartments, 80% of which will be affordable. Construction is underway and will complete in February 2022.

Glengall Road, Southwark, south London

This scheme (pictured) just off the Old Kent Road has a resolution to grant planning permission for 181 homes on the site of a former factory and warehouse. Work on the site is expected to start in the next few months.

Ockford Park, Godalming, Surrey

Southern Housing will work with Cala Homes in Surrey to deliver 80 affordable homes as part of the latter’s larger 286-home development. Southern Housing Group’s homes will be delivered between 2021 and 2023.

Wings Nursery and Wings House, Adur, West Sussex

Southern Housing plans to deliver a total of 75 homes across two adjacent sites with contractor Thakeham Client.

Old Portsmouth Road, Guildford, Surrey

A site has been purchased in Guildford for the construction of 39 homes and the refurbishment of a Grade II listed building which will be delivered in 2022.

West Kent College, Tonbridge and Malling, Kent

A planning application will be submitted in March 2020 for 51 homes, all of which will be affordable. The three and four-bedroom houses and apartments will be delivered in 2022.
