Upgrades will include solar panel installation

Property services contractor WPS will carry out a range of energy efficiency upgrades over three years to homes in Liverpool, Halton, Carlisle, Langley estate in Middleton and Enfield in London, with further areas to be added in future phases.

The works will include cavity wall insulation, solar panel installation, roof alterations, external wall insulation, double glazing, new doors, and other measures to bring homes up to Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Band C.

The initiative is backed by £36m from the government’s Warm Homes Social Housing Fund (Wave 3), which is being matched by Riverside.

Ian Gregg, chief property officer at Riverside said the improvements will make properties ”warmer, more comfortable and more affordable to live in – helping to lower energy bills and reduce fuel poverty”.

Work is expected to begin in early October.

The news comes after Riverside issued a £250m bond earlier this month to raise money to bring properties up to EPC C and complete a cladding remediation programme by 2028.

The landlord has previously delivered retrofit work under Wave 2.1 of the warm homes fund, in which it received £26m for upgrades to more than 1,000 homes in Carlisle, Halton, Liverpool and London. WPS was the contractor for the South during this period.

Riverside is aiming for all homes to be energy efficient by 2030. It has 75,000 properties across England.
