The 5,000-home trust said Howden would replace former chief executive Tim Pinder, who stepped down after a period of time away from the company.

Peaks & Plains’ chairman John Hudson said Howden, previously the trust’s director place and deputy chief executive, had “demonstrated impressive leadership qualities during a period of change”.

The housing group has also appointed a new assistant director of development, Justine Gore, and is looking to recruit a new executive director of operations.

In April last year Peak & Plains published its five-year strategy which included plans to build 750 new homes across all tenures and run a modular construction pilot programme.

The homes will be completed over five years. The most recent scheme, called Crossings and located in Macclesfield, is being developed in partnership with Homes England. It includes 67 homes for private rent, shared ownership and rent to buy.
