The 109,000-home housing association, in a trading update today, said it completed 658 homes in the six months to 30 September. This is up on the 225 reported for the same period the previous year.

It said: “We continue to prioritise our existing pipeline with around 5,500 homes currently under construction, including through joint ventures.”

The group increased its turnover 7% from £486m to £522m and its surplus 61% from £34m to £55m.

Peabody spent £210m in total on improving existing homes, up from £190m.

It said however that the completion of new build sales was “progressing at a slower rate than forecast” but hopes to see an improvement later in the year.

Peabody said the group “faced completion challenges” at its Wornington Green development in Kensington, west London. Its sales revenue for the half-year totalled £48m.

Phil Day, chief financial officer at Peabody said: “We’re continuing to prioritise investment in residents’ homes and improving services. We’ve started to see an improvement in our financial performance, but we know we still have more to do. We’re listening to residents and working together with them to help provide the support and services that local neighbourhoods need, whilst making sure we deliver value for money.

“We anticipate the benefits of the comprehensive spending review will support our ongoing improvement journey and have been actively engaging with government and other partners to maximise its impact.”
