Since joining Place for People (PfP) in April 2024, Origin’s almost 9,000 units across London and Hertfordshire are now fully part of the group’s 262,000-home stock.

PfP have said that services will continue with “minimal disruption” as tenancies remain unchanged and rent payments and neighbourhood support will be delivered by the same colleagues from Origin.

As part of the deal, PfP has promised an additional £100m of investment in the homes owned by Origin over the first 10 years following the merger.

News of merger discussions emerged in October 2023 after Origin was placed under review by the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH), which later downgraded the landlord to non-compliant G3 and V3 ratings for governance and viability.

Carol Carter, who joined Origin as chief executive in 2017, has now retired following the integration, while Origin board members resigned at the end of March 2025.

Origin Housing was established by Father Basil Jellicoe in 1924 as St. Pancras House Improvement Society, a charity aiming to improve living conditions in the Somers Town area of London.
