Steve Wood is stepping down after eight years as boss of the warranty provider

The National House Building Council (NHBC) has appointed Paul Turner as chief executive officer, effective as of 1 September 2025. 

He will succeed Steve Wood, who has led the NHBC since 2017, but announced his intention to step down earlier this year.

Turner’s background is in insurance and financial services. He started out as an underwriter at Mercantile & General before moving to Swiss Re where he spent two decades.

In 2014, Turner joined Just Group, holding several executive positions, most recently anaging director of retail.

Alan Rubenstein, chair of NHBC, said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul Turner as our new Chief Executive. Paul brings a wealth of experience in the insurance and financial services sectors, both in the UK and internationally. His purpose-driven leadership and track record at Just Group plc make him the ideal person to lead NHBC into its next chapter.”
