Housing association given thumbs-up for second phase of £450m development

Housing association Network Homes has been given the green light for nearly 1,000 homes on land next to Northwick Park Hospital in north-west London.

The PRP-designed scheme is the second phase of a £450m, 1,600 home development which will also include student facilities, commercial space and a nursery across 19 buildings on the site. It will include 40% affordable homes.

The first phase, consisting of 654 homes, was given the go-ahead in December last year.

A spokesperson for Network Homes said a contractor for the second phase, which was approved by Brent council late last month, will be announced shortly.

The development of the land between Northwick Park Hospital and the adjacent Northwick Park is being led by a partnership between Network Homes, London North West Hospitals NHS Trust, the council and the University of Westminster.

The four organisations have been awarded £500,000 from the One Public Estate programme, a Cabinet Office scheme to encourage public sector organisations to make better use of their land.

Northwick Park Hospital made headlines in 2006 after a disastrous clinical trial on the site resulted in the near deaths of six people when the drug being tested unexpectedly caused catastrophic organ failures.
