Elaine Elkington appointed as interim after Dehal steps down to “focus on other commitments”

Gurpreet Dehal has stepped down as chair at Housing 21.

Dehal, who has chaired the older people’s housing specialist since February, has stepped down in order to “focus on other professional commitments”, a spokesperson for the provider said.

Dehal, who is is currently an independent member of governing council for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) said that “he had valued the opportunity to contribute” to the housing provider.

Dehal is also currently chair and pro-chancellor of the University of Derby and on the board of the London Legacy Development Corporation.

The Birmingham-based housing provider has now appointed Elaine Elkington as interim board chair with immediate effect. Elkington has been appointed for an indefinite interim period until the housing provider appoints a new chair. 

Elkington is a board member of the London-based housing association A2Dominion Group and was previously a lead housing consultant at Salix Finance, a public body providing funding schemes and guidance for decarbonisation and energy efficiency. She was also previously the interim director for regeneration and planning at the London Borough of Newham and the Interim MD for the building consultancy, LHC Procurement Group. 

Housing 21 manages more than 23,300 homes. In December, the housing provider appointed Andrew Shaw as its permanent chief financial officer, after serving as interm since January 2023.
