West London needs final sign-off from GLA

Ham Close regeneration

How the Ham Close regeneration will look

Richmond Council has approved plans from housebuilder Hill Group and housing provider Richmond Housing Partnership for a 452-home regeneration scheme.

The Ham Close plans need a final sign-off from the Greater London Authority, which is expected in the New Year, for the scheme, which will include new community facilities and public spaces, to go ahead.

About 49% of the homes will be affordable, for rent, London Living Rent and Shared Ownership, and will replace several outdated blocks of flats built in the 1960s. Ten per cent of the new homes will be wheelchair accessible.

The council and RHP have been working on the scheme, which will include a £2m social impact fund, opportunities for apprenticeships and construction jobs for local residents, over several years.

Andy Hill, group chief executive at Hill, said: “We are looking forward to gaining final approval from the GLA in due course. We will be working with our partner RHP to finalise matters and move forward immediately to the construction stage.”

David Done, chief executive of RHP, added: “The regeneration will create a better place for our customers and other people that will come to live there in the future. Our customers will massively benefit from moving into fully-modern new homes alongside state-of-the-art facilities and the regeneration will bring so many additional advantages for the local community.”

The designs for Ham Close were created by architect BPTW and local architecture practice WR-AP.
