Michael Laird Architects’ plans for the Elmbank Gardens site

The 25-storey student accommodation scheme, designed by Michael Laird Architects, will occupy the Elmbank Gardens site on the corner of Bath Street and Newton Street, next to Charing Cross station.

Designed for developer CXG Glasgow Ltd, it will contain 620 student beds and is expected to start construction next year with completion penned in for 2030.

Approval was granted in 2024 for the site’s wider masterplan, which will include grade A office space, private homes, retail space and new public realm, with the second phase of the development to be delivered in the early 2030s.

Demolition of the masterplan site’s two 1960s buildings is currently being carried out by Reigart Contracts and is expected to complete in August this year.
