Boards to consider Railway Housing Association’s proposal
Railway Housing Association has proposed plans to join Thirteen Group.

The 1,620-home landlord owns and manages social housing across 20 UK local authorities.
It was established in the aftermath of the First World War, supported by the Homes for Heroes campaign, to house returning railway workers.
Matt Sugden, chief executive at Railway Housing Association, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Railway Housing Association, our heritage, and the longstanding relationships we’ve built with local people and organisations. As we look to the future, we’re committed to building on that strong foundation and ensuring we can continue investing in our homes, services and local communities.
“This proposal would allow us to do that alongside an organisation that shares our values, commitment to residents and long-term ambitions. We believe it represents a positive opportunity for our residents, colleagues and partners, while preserving the strengths that make Railway what it is today.”
Matt Forrest, boss of 36,000-home Thirteen Group, said it has been “particularly impressed by [Railway Housing Association’s] focus on resident engagement and the difference it makes for local people”.
“By bringing our strengths together, we believe we can increase our impact, enhance our capacity to invest and create even more opportunities for residents and communities across our region,” he added.
Both organisations will continue to operate as usual while the proposal is considered by their governing boards. They said they will keep residents, colleagues and partners informed throughout the process.
