Plans for 139 homes for rent given green light by Lambeth Council
Connected Living London, the partnership between Transport for London and developer Grainger, has been given the green light by Lambeth council for a 139-home rental scheme in Kennington on a site currently being used as part of works on the Northern Line extension.
The Hawkins Brown-designed proposals are located across the road from the area’s famous cluster of grade II-listed Victorian gasholders and a short walk from Oval cricket ground.
The two-block scheme on Montford Place will include 2,700sq m of light industrial space with 40% of its studio, one-, two- and three-bed homes being affordable.
Connected Living London (CLL) said the design featured a range of sustainable credentials, including roof gardens, hedges and bird boxes to provide shelter and roosting sites for birds.
The planning win follows Ealing council’s approval for CLL’s 460-home scheme next to Southall station in September.
That development was designed by Assael Architecture and is also located on a TfL site which had been used for storage and associated works for the Elizabeth line.
The two schemes are the first of four lodged for planning by CLL since the partnership was set up in July last year, with the remaining two at Nine Elms and Arnos Grove due to be heard at planning committees in the coming months.
All four schemes include 40% affordable housing and would provide 1,200 new rental across the capital if they are all given the go ahead.
