Atkins has appointed an ex-Morgan Sindall development boss to head up the commercial team at its development arm, MetroHome.

Nick Towe (pictured) has joined the consultant as commercial director from Morgan Sindall Investments, where he helped create the Morgan Sindall HB Villages joint venture, rolling out their supported living, extra care and social housing development businesses.

MetroHome works with local authorities identify and unlock small parcels of land to build affordable homes, with the model the firm using allowing authorities to retain land ownership.

The firm uses an offsite manufactured housing product which it said can be constructed on-site in as little as 10 weeks.

MetroHome said the process was more efficient and cost-effective than traditional new builds and “its flexibility allowed construction in areas deemed too difficult or expensive to develop”.

The firm has partnered with London-based Parabuild Solutions, which designs light gauge steel frame housing kits in the UK and has them made and shipped in from China.
