Just over half (51%) of the properties will be for affordable housing, with 400 of these to be let at social rent by the council. The remaining affordable homes will be delivered through a partnership agreement with a developer and registered providers.

An outline planning application was submitted in March, including later living homes alongside new community and sports facilities and a high street.

The council and Lovell have started drafting up a partnership agreement, which is expected to be signed next spring. The agreement will set out the obligations of each party to deliver the regeneration and will be the final step before work can start.

Nicky Brennan, BCC’s cabinet member for housing and homelessness, said the council has spent two years “working with the community” to develop the regeneration plans.

During the public consultation period, many residents commented that the timescales for the plan were too long and expressed concern about being priced out of the area.
