Housebuilder Lovell to deliver regeneration after being named preferred partner
Birmingham City Council’s cabinet has this week approved a contract with developer Lovell for the delivery of its 3,500-home Druids Heath regeneration scheme.

The pair have begun drafting a partnership agreement setting out each party’s obligations to deliver the £1bn project, which is expected to be signed in spring 2026.
The announcement comes after Lovell was named as the council’s preferred development partner in September 2025.
Of the new homes, 51% will be affordable with 400 units for social rent. The remaining affordable homes will be delivered through a partnership agreement between Lovell and Homes England.
An outline planning application for Druids Heath was approved in October 2025, including proposals for later living homes alongside new community and sports facilities and a high street.
The scheme has previously been subject to controversy as many residents commented that the timescales for the plan were too long and expressed concern about being priced out of the area during the public consultation period.
However, Nicky Brennan, the council’s cabinet member for housing and homelessness, said that the authority has consulted with more than 1,000 residents over the past two years, of which 68% supported the scheme.
The cabinet’s latest decision is subject to call-in until 26 January. If no valid request is received before the deadline, the contract will be implemented.
