The Hampshire-based housebuilder reported the loss in its accounts for the year to 30 September 2025. It compares to a £2.9m profit the previous year. The group’s turnover also fell 18% from £117.9m to £96.9m over the same period.

The group’s overall completions dropped from 220 to 155 homes.

It said the “deteriorating economic climate, coupled with inflation and unprecedented interest rate rises” continue to “present the greatest risk” to its business.

It said: “As anticipated last year, build cost inflation outstripped house price inflation contributing to lower gross margin reported this year. We have continue our disciplined approach to land buying to preserve margins.”

Bewley said that despite the “more challenging trading conditions” it has maintained a strong balance sheet position, with cash held increasing from £2.1m to £10.3m and its total assets less current liabilities totalling £159.5m, albeit slightly down on last year’s figure of £164.3m.

Bewley placed 39th in Housing Today’s Top 50 Housebuilders list in 2025.
