Scheme is phase 4 of Sheppard Robson-designed Grand Union development
Berkeley Group has received planning permission for 168 social rented homes in Brent, northwest London.

The scheme is phase 4b of the seven-phase masterplan for the 3,350-home Grand Union development, which sits at the intersection of the River Brent and the Grand Union Canal.
The masterplan was designed by architecture firm Sheppard Robson and was granted consent in 2018.
The approved proposal will link the homes via new streets to the scheme’s planned Central Park, which will include an amphitheatre, water features and a children’s play area.
Sheppard Robson said the newly approved buildings “step carefully” between the homes on the northern edge of the site towards the taller blocks that sit within Central Park.
The architect has also designed phases two and three of Grand Union, which Berkley said would deliver more than 1,170 homes (35%) for affordable rent, a multi-storey industrial building, canalside public square, community centre and hospitality venues.
Developer St George West, a subsidiary of Berkeley Group, purchased the site in April 2017. Work began in January 2019 and the first homes, which were 100% affordable, were handed over to Brent Council in December 2021.
