Trio of programmes will now run until 31 March 2027

The Welsh government has announced the extension of three initiatives aimed at making home ownership more affordable.

‘Help to Stay Wales’ scheme extension is part of Welsh government’s 100 days post-election commitment to help families in the cost of living crisis

In a written statement, Welsh housing minister Siân Gwenllian confirmed that ‘Help to Buy – Wales’, the ‘Empty Homes Grant’ and ‘Help to Stay Wales’ will run until 31 March 2027.

The extension of ‘Help to Buy – Wales’ aims to support up to 400 additional households into home ownership by giving eligible buyers the opportunity to purchase a new build home with a smaller deposit.

The ‘Empty Homes Grant’ intends to renovate up to a further 300 properties, while the ‘Help to Stay Wales’ scheme will remain in place to financially support those experiencing mortgage difficulties.

The extension of this scheme is part of the commitment in the Plaid Cymru-led government’s post-election 100 days plan to help families in the cost of living crisis.
