The announcement brings the government’s total investment in the ‘Transforming Towns’ programme to £56.3m since it opened in 2020.

The funding will be used for a variety of projects, spanning creative industries, leisure, transport and heritage.

In Wrexham, a £2.9m grant supported the regeneration of a grade II-listed library into a workspace for the creative sector, providing rental spaces for music, arts and creative businesses, housing recording studios, TV production facilities, rehearsal space and pop-up retail.

The programme is also investing £900,000 in the construction of a new leisure and wellbeing centre in Caerphilly, including a spa, children’s adventure play area, fitness studios and an indoor fitness arena.

Jayne Bryant, cabinet secretary for housing and local government, said: “This is about more than buildings - it is about giving people confidence in the place they call home, attracting jobs to the local area, and making sure that regeneration reaches every corner of Wales.

“The breadth of investment across Wales — from Anglesey to the Valleys — shows our determination that no community is left behind, and that every part of Wales can benefit from renewal.”
