Construction could begin this summer

Plans for a £100m redevelopment of Church Wharf in Bolton’s town centre have been submitted for planning approval by Watson.

The Salford-based developer and contractor wants to build 415 homes and a 130-bedroom hotel, as well as commercial spaces for bars, restaurants and shops.

The four-phase scheme, designed by Jmarchitects, has been designed to complement other residential schemes in the area, including Moor Lane and Deansgate Gardens.

Development has been supported by £5m in funding from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Brownfield Housing Fund.

The residential component will comprise a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom houses and apartments, with some available for affordable tenure.

Rob Watson, director of Watson, said: “We are delighted to have submitted plans for such a transformative project.

“Church Wharf is not just about new buildings, it’s about revitalising Bolton Town Centre with much-needed housing, dynamic commercial and leisure spaces, together with a hotel that will bolster the local economy, enhancing the lives of the community.

“As members of the Bolton community, we are proud to be part of Bolton Town Centre’s regeneration master plan. We are committed to making a long-lasting, positive impact on the communities we serve.”

If approved, construction will begin in Summer 2025, with completion planned for 2029.
