Sperring (pictured opposite, left) joined Wates as a site surveyor in the West Midlands in 1979 and worked on estate modernisation schemes for a number of local authorities, including Walsall council and Birmingham city council.

He will be replaced by Steve Jackson (pictured opposite, right), who has been promoted from operations director for Wates Living Space, which provides maintenance and compliance services to the social housing sector, including local authorities and housing associations.

In his new job, Jackson will oversee strategy decisions across Wates Property Services’ two businesses, Wates Living Space and Wates FM, with responsibility for business development, communications and contracts.

Wates has also created a new property services operating board, formed of James Gregg, managing director of Wates FM; Simon Osborne, head of safety, health, environment and quality; and the business’ three regional managing directors, Stewart Reid, Darren Burns and Gary Wilkinson.
