Carmel Chambers has been promoted to steer council’s arm’s length management organisation
Stockport Homes Group (SHG) has appointed Carmel Chambers as its new chief executive.

Chambers, a chartered accountant who joined SHG in 2006, will step up from her current role as deputy chief executive to replace Helen McHale who retires this year.
In her new post, Chambers will work with the council to deliver Stockport’s ambitions within the One Stockport Borough Plan, a strategy aiming to improve community life for people living in Stockport by 2030 through initiatives targeting education, health, volunteering and investment in new infrastructure.
Chambers said: “It is an absolute privilege to serve in my hometown and the people of Stockport.
”Having been part of Stockport Homes for the last 19.5 years, I am delighted to be able to lead it in its next phase.
“Significant housing demands and challenges continue. I will be focussing on delivering the best outcomes for our customers, being there for those who need us most, and leading our workforce, of whom I am immensely proud.”
SHG is an arm’s length management organisation wholly owned by Stockport Council. It manages roughly 11,500 properties on behalf of the local authority and around 800 properties of its own.
