The regulator oversees 140 social landlords and 32 local authorities in Scotland

Garry Coutts has been named as chair of the board of the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR).

Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Màiri McAllan MSP, announced the appointment last week.

Coutts has previously been a non-executive director with NHS Highland, the Scottish Social Services Council and Children’s Hearings Scotland. He was a local authority councillor in both Edinburgh and Highland and currently chairs Highland Housing Alliance.

His appointment will be for four years and will run from 1st August 2025 to 31st July 2029.

As chair, he is expected to commit 104 days to the SHR board per year, and will be paid  £235.93 a day, or £24,536 annually. 

The SHR was established 14 years ago under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010 and currently consists of the chair and eight board members. It regulates 140 registered social landlords and the housing activities of 32 local authorities.
