The appointments follow an open recruitment exercise supported by the independent tenant representative body, the Tenant Information Service Scotland (TIS).

Tenant advisors, which are tenants from local authorities and registered social landlords, provide feedback directly to the regulator from the perspective of social housing service users.

They have tested landlord services, reviewed the regulator’s publications and website and participated in group discussions on the quality of social landlord services and regulation.

Helen Shaw, director of regulation, said working with tenant advisors helps “keep their views at the heart of what we do.” She also thanked the previous tenant advisors.

Advisors may be asked to act as mystery shoppers to assess information and materials produced by social landlords for their tenants, as well as provide feedback to ensure the regulator’s online material is both accessible and user-friendly.

They may also ask other residents for their views when the regulator assesses the quality of service provided by social landlords to add to other regulatory evidence.
