New Chelmsley Wood community will have 100% affordable housing

Platform Housing Group has forward purchased all 177 homes at a development being delivered by Vistry in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull on behalf of Solihull Council.

The 100% affordable scheme will be built on the former Simon Digby School site next to a nature reserve, which has been earmarked for residential development by Solihull Council for more than a decade.

The plans, approved in March 2026, comprise a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom houses alongside one-bedroom maisonettes, and include a play area, nature trail and new areas of public open space.

The properties will be built using modern methods of construction at the Vistry Works East Midlands factory in Leicestershire.

Platform will own and manage all the homes.

Solihull Council appointed Vistry as the scheme’s development partner in October 2024.

The Platform-Vistry partnership announcement comes amid news of Vistry’s financial struggles. Last month, the housebuilder invited its staff to apply for a voluntary exit scheme following a string of profit warnings and the departure of its chief executive and chair.
