How the scheme will look when completed

The scheme at 180 Arlington Road has been drawn up by AHMM and will include cultural and leisure space as well as 48 affordable homes and 244 student bedrooms along with restaurants, shops and café space.

Roughly 60% of the affordable component will be offered at social rent or London Affordable Rent. The rest will be set at intermediate tenure rates.

The developer on the north London job, called Camden Town Xchange, is Camden Vision with others working on the project including transport and construction management consultant Caneparo Associates and planning firm Newmark.

The scheme will replace a bingo hall which closed last year as well as a cinema, which is slated for closure next spring.

The new cultural and leisure space will be equipped for a range of uses, according to the developers, including being used as a performance venue, an immersive gallery or “other experiential formats”.

Camden Vision held four public exhibition events on the site in June and July.

Chris Shaw at Camden Vision said: “This submission marks a major milestone for Camden Town Xchange and our vision to create a new place that reflect Camden’s unique character while meeting the needs of its residents and businesses. By blending culture, community, and dynamism, we’re breathing new life into this landmark site.

”We’re grateful for the time, energy and ideas shared throughout the consultation process. These proposals reflect what we’ve heard from the community and will help deliver real benefits for Camden, from affordable homes and greener streets to cultural spaces that celebrate the area’s heritage.”
