Proposals would see existing office building demolished

Plans have been submitted to demolish a vacant office building in central Glasgow and replace it with a 287-unit student housing scheme.

The proposals, drawn up by Mosaic Architecture + Design on behalf of TREC Capital, would see the construction of a new 15-storey building on the corner of Waterloo Street and West Campbell Street in the city centre.

Comprising a mix of cluster rooms and studios, the Princes House scheme will also include amenity spaces including study rooms, break-out and social space, and communal roof terraces.

“This development, which will help re-populate the city centre and provide a new use on an under-used site, will provide new best-in-class PBSA, of which there is a clear shortage of in this part of the city,” said Neil Haining, director of Mosaic Architecture and Design.

Andrew White, development manager for TREC Capital, added: “I am delighted to be involved in the redevelopment of this prime city centre site.

“The existing building frame is structurally compromised, and the internal layout is unsuitable for conversion, making redevelopment the only option.”
