Around 35% of 13-acre scheme earmarked as affordable

Property developer Hadley Group has sent in its application for a 13-acre redevelopment of the former GSK headquarters in west London.

The proposals for the 980 Great West Road site in Brentford would include around 2,300 homes, 35% of which would be affordable, and more than 320,000sq ft of commercial and retail space.

The design team includes two Stirling Prize winners, Haworth Tompkins and dRMM, along with Studio Egret West and Metropolitan Workshop.

The application is yet to be validated, but images released by Hadley Group show a number of tall buildings rising to around 25 storeys linked by a network of landscaped pedestrian avenues.

More than 60% of the site would be classed as public realm, encompassing play areas, gardens and areas running along the river Brent.

The project team also includes landscape architect McGregor Coxall and engineer Buro Happold.

Hadley purchased the GSK site last year following the pharmaceuticals giant’s relocation to New Oxford Street in central London after occupying the Brentford site for over 20 years.

The acquisition of the site was funded by Peterson Group and BGO, with advisory from Pennyhill Capital.
