1,864-home town centre regen now waiting for final all clear from MHCLG
Plans for a £500m town centre regeneration scheme in Stevenage have been approved by the local council.
Known as SG1, the scheme will provide 1,864 new homes across 11 buildings on 14.5 acres of council-owned land.
Mace was appointed development partner to the scheme by Stevenage borough council in 2018, will build five new neighbourhoods in the Hertfordshire town.
It has been masterplanned by architect PRP with landscape architect LDA Design also on the project team.
A public services hub comprising health facilities, a library, retail and office space has been designed by Bennetts Associates.
The scheme is part of a wider £1bn regeneration plan which aims to transform the centre of the town over the next 20 years.
A main contractor is expected to be appointed in the coming months, but construction will need to wait for the outcome of a review by MHCLG before it can begin.
Mace is currently project managing the £1bn Stratford Waterfront development in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which includes new buildings for the BBC, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, the Victoria & Albert museum and the University of the Arts’ London College of Fashion.
